The taste of the world’s most beautiful coast.
In harmony with nature, for our future
Øyhagen has its origins on the idyllic Kvalholmen in the Vega Archipelago World Heritage Area, a place with a history stretching back to the 17th century. For generations, people lived here in close interaction with the sea, the land, and the wildlife. Today, life is returning, with grazing animals once again treading their paths in the heathlands, and the landscape slowly but surely being nurtured back to its natural beauty. This process is at the core of our work – balancing between preserving the old and finding new ways to live in harmony with nature.
The essence of Northern Norwegian nature
We produce honey that is as unique as the place it comes from. Our honey is collected from Vega's unique heathland, where the bees buzz diligently in the midnight sun, gathering nectar from the rich flora. Here, at the foot of the mountain, at the edge of the sea, we find the plants that give the honey its characteristic flavour – a taste that captures the essence of Northern Norwegian nature. In the tidal zone, eider ducks nest, reminding us of the interplay between life on land and in water.
Genuine, locally sourced food
But Øyhagen is not just about honey. We are dedicated to creating genuine, locally sourced food that tells the story of our deep love for nature. Every bite, every spoonful, is a result of our respect for the landscape, our commitment to sustainability, and our desire to share the best of Northern Norwegian cuisine with the world. Through our products, we convey not just taste, but also knowledge about the biodiversity, coastal culture, and the traditions that have shaped the Vega Islands through centuries.
We are stewards of a heritage, conveyors of knowledge, and producers of food that connects past, present, and future – and Øyhagen is a place where timeless values are preserved, and nature's rhythm sets the pace. Through our work, we wish to inspire others to see the value in living with nature, and to enjoy food as a connection to both location and history.
Welcome to Øyhagen
– where every drop of honey, every piece of bread, and every morsel of our products carries with it a taste of the world's most beautiful coast, and a tale of a unique interaction between humans and nature.
